Given the significant investment the City is currently making in updating the Comprehensive Plan, I see no reason to allow any amendments at this time. The applicant’s code amendment should be denied as they have every opportunity to submit their ideas like everyone else through the City of Meridian’s Comprehensive Plan Update by participating in the “robust and effective community outreach process”. Why would the City circumvent its own process by allowing a developer to come in through the back door and make changes at this time? “The City of Meridian is excited to announce the kickoff of the Comprehensive Plan update. Through a robust and effective community outreach process, this Plan will establish logical and plausible land use and policy alternatives for the City; identify specific actionable, fiscally responsible, and prioritized implementation recommendations; and result in a plan that will be relevant and have an important and ongoing role in directing the vision, marketing, and strategic planning for the City.” \[excerpt from email from Brian McClure dated May 23, 2018 calling for community participation in the Comprehensive Plan Update process\] To approve H-2018-0059 code amendment now sends a message that the City’s intent to update the Comprehensive Plan is disingenuous and the time and budget spent on this project was a waste. Therefore, I respectfully request H-2018-0059 code amendment be denied. Best regards, Kathi Baumgartner 1
