Subject:Developer's applications for an amendment to city code & zoning naming
Mayor Tammy, Council Men and Women, and Planning and Zoning staff,
I would very much like to let you know that I completely oppose a new zoning system. Designating land as "R-
2 and R-8" is easily understood and the only possible reason that developers might want to change it to "R-A or
R-C" is that it makes the term completely ambiguous to those of us who are not in that industry.
I am also horrified that DevCo is wanting to change the code to 0' to 3' setbacks while the current code is
12'!!!! That's INSANE! I do NOT want Meridian to cram so many homes into smaller and smaller spaces. If
you go to ANY urban city and look at the neighborhoods that have done this in the past, they are mostly run
down and have so much crime it's awful! PLEASE consider what YOUR grandchildren will be faced
with! They should NOT have to live in neighborhoods that put the profit of developers ahead of what's good
for our city!
Lastly, I would like to say once again that I can't believe that I attended multiple meetings about "East Ridge
Estates" where the Council sent the plan back to the Developer with the counsel that he should make it with less
homes, and when he came back, he sneakily re-applied and the council approved from 118 homes up to 138
homes! And he sold everyone on the development saying that the 55+ gated portion of the subdivision would
be wonderful.... where his version of wonderful made teeny tiny streets, 4 houses to 1 driveway, and NO
sidewalks! These poor people won't even be able to have their family come for dinner! There won't be a place
to park! And since "55" isn't exactly elderly and they might like to walk - and Council approved this
development to not have sidewalks to walk on. LUDICROUS! So slowly but surely, Jim Conger of DevCo is
changing our wonderful city.
The common thread in all these changes in Jim Conger and DevCo. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't sell us
all out! We are relying on you to have our backs!
