Please include my testimony in the paperwork for tonight’s hearing about the Cherry Blossom Development.
I am not to attending tonight’s meeting as it is too stressful.
I urge the city and the council members to retain R-4 zoning on this piece of property, as a change to R-8 is not
necessary to accommodate construction of 47 houses. I thank the developer and design company for reducing the
number of houses by 12, and for keeping them at a maximum height of 24 feet.
I urge the developer to site the houses throughout the development so that the taller structures are adjacent the
existing two-story structures and the shorter structures adjacent to single-story homes. This will reduce the
obstruction of view and over-shadowing of the older homes.
I also urge the city to consider the appropriate amount of shade trees to be place upon developments like Cherry
Blossom. Most of the older homes have at least one large shade tree, and some, like mine have three or more. This
dramatically reduces the cooling necessary in the summer, helps block high winds, reduces pollution and enhances
the neighborhood. Developments like Cherry Blossom contribute to greater use of fossil fuels and irrigation water. I
hope the city is setting a maximum capacity for growth based upon available resources and encouraging
environmentally advantageous developments.
