Councilman Palmer,
Thank you for being a voice of reason at the July 24 th meeting regarding the new Costco. As you rightly
stated, the neighbors who are opposed to the Costco will likely never be satisfied. A few of them are
even seeking to use legal bullying tactics to sully the Council/approval process and stop the
development. I appreciate you speaking up and saying the truth: “This is not a piece of property the
neighbors own. It just blows my mind that this is [considered] an inappropriate design.”
The vocal MINORITY who oppose this Costco should not be allowed to speak for the quieter MAJORITY
who see the great benefits this development would provide: expanded retail access for homeowners in
North Meridain, family wage employment, massive infrastructure improvements on the Chinden
corridor, and needed property tax revenues. I hope that the other Council members will not let the
unwarranted, selfish NIMBY-ism of a few property owners stall this project into oblivion. Thank you for
standing up to the self-absorbed neighbors who think they can control private property and
development to fit their whims.
Sincerely,
Justin McMurdie

Hey there, Someone just submitted your form on meridiancity.org. Here's what they had to say: Request for Mayor and Council Name Justin McMurdie

Subject Costco Design & Final Approval
Message Dear Council Members & Mayor de Weerd,
I live in NW Boise, but I pastor a church in Meridian and frequent the area of the
proposed Costco. I know that the impacts of development & growth are in the
forefront of many minds in this season. However, I want to to encourage all of you
to not let the vocal MINORITY of opponents drown out the opinion of a quieter
MAJORITY of Meridian/Ada County residents who are excited about the proposed
Costco. It will bring much-needed infrastructure improvements to the Chinden
corridor, offer family-wage employment opportunities for Meridian residents, and
3
bring services closer to homeowners in North Meridian. In my opinion, the opponents who are filing baseless lawsuits and offering endless criticism will never be satisfied. They have bought or built their house near a major State Highway and now want to dictate how private property is developed near said thoroughfare. Please do not let their vitriol push you toward delaying the Costco development into oblivion. Costco has bent over backwards, in my opinion, to accommodate people who will selfishly object to any development that doesn't fit their preconceived notions. I would ask that the Costco design be approved post haste at the September meeting. I believe the vast majority of residents will be grateful. Sincerely, Justin McMurdie This form was submitted at 06:23 PM UTC - 25 July 2018. You are receiving this because you confirmed this email address on Formspree. I hope my email wasn't over-the-top. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I just feel that the backlash (esp. the baseless lawsuit) are unnecessarily casting aspersions at the Council and the permitting process. I think you are all doing a great job and I hope Meridian continues to grow and develop over the years.
