Despite all the concerns brought by the residents, this was the ONLY request council made of the developer. Costco held a neighborhood meeting to "gather input from residents"; however, many residents affected by this application were not notified or aware of their right to weigh in. Furthermore, past neighborhood meetings have merely been an informational hour by developers to tell the public what is going to happen. The only recourse residents have is to write directly to city council and put their thoughts on the public record. That is the purpose of this letter. To inform you that I would like to see the City Council hold Costco accountable for developing a truly unique neighborhood- friendly design that would enhance the corner of Ten Mile and Chinden. Given the current submission, the Costco looks like a hodge podge of other Costcos thrown together and is not unique at all. Please tell Costco the Meridian deserves a better design. I previously lived in SouthEast Boise for 20 yrs. I saved for, researched and built a home in Spurwing Greens. It took everything to buy into an upscale neighborhood where we could work toward our retirement. Then, I even changed my employer to a Meridian employer from Downtown Boise so that I could work in the community in which I now live. The whole Costco debacle has given me a sad and bad opinion of Meridian. I am devastated that you allowed this maneuver on the part of Brighton and Costco. It is shameful. There are alternative locations, and even you, Mayor Tammy, said during a council session that you weren’t sure Ten Mile and Chinden was the best location. We are just sick. Being mindful, we built our house there in Meridian. We made the commitment to pay the high HOA fees for the location and amenities we worked so hard for and now it will be ruined. We knew there would be development and welcome that, but a garishly big box store and all the traffic is unfair at that location. You ALL got this one terribly wrong. I implore you to reconsider and ask Costco to, at a minimum, move down the road to Highway 16 and Chinden. When there is a viable solution that will still allow for the road improvements, support Costco, the city of Meridian and better the lives of the neighbors, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t do that. If this is allowed to continue, I will sell my house and move out of Meridian along with a growing number of neighbors. Just asking Costco to make a fancy exterior to this store is not the answer and you ALL know it. Don’t just placate us. Do the right thing and change the location. Respectfully, Kay Walter, HR Director 651 S. Stratford Drive, Suite 100 Meridian, ID 83642 208-514-0147 KWalter@proserviceboise.com
