Subject:Letter Opposing Cherry Blossom Subdivision and rezoning
Hello,
I know that your office has probably received quite a few letters and emails from the wonderful people in my
neighborhood. I wanted to add myself to that list and voice my passionate opposition to rezoning our neighborhood
and developing the proposed subdivision.
I’ve grown up in Meridian. I’m only 28 years old, but the growth I’ve seen in my short life is tremendous and, at times,
saddening. I love our town. I love the community, the beauty, the quaint feeling we still somehow hold on to. I grew up
on Pine, then when I was 14 moved around the corner to where my parents are now on 7 th . We have BBQ’s with our
neighbors, always stop and talk to the families who regularly stop and say hi on their way by with dogs and kids at
foot. Some of our neighbors I consider my family. We all knew eventually the day would come that the field across the
way, the field our cats catch mice in and the killdeer lay eggs in, would become something more than a quiet gem that
we were blessed to live by. We knew hoping and praying for a park or community garden was far fetched. But when I
heard news of what is being planned, my heart sank. I hope to someday live in this house with a family of my own. I
hope to take walks with my family on a street safe from immense traffic. I hope to someday show my kids a baby duck
waddling along the ditch bank. I hope to someday take my kids to the same schools I went to, knowing they’re in a place
that’s not extremely overcrowded. I hope to have neighbors that bring us fresh caught trout every weekend because
they’re amazing, selfless people who felt like it. More than anything, I want more for our neighborhood. We’re lucky
enough to have unique homes full of character, larger lots with mature and gorgeous landscaping, and best of
all…people who don’t take that for granted. Don’t take that away from us, or from our town. I love my home, our home,
but unfortunately, if the city chooses to move forward with the rezoning, I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to
stay. Keep the small part of historic meridian something special. Keep natives like myself, who want to stay and thrive
here, here. Please, please, please, don’t vote for this rezoning.
Thank you for your time,
Annie Cope
