After being booed and heckled during and after my testimony at the P&Z hearing, I must admit that I grew quite nervous and intimidated listening to testimony before me last night, especially being one of the last to testify and only the second “For” the project. During the break, a woman approached me said she would never use my business again. Nevertheless, I’m glad I did get up and at least attempt to say what I’d intended. For piece of mind, I also thought I’d forward the analysis of public record that was mentioned in the second round of testimony and questioning. ;) After seeing it, it’s quite obvious that those whom are opposed are definitely the minority. With that, I do believe the opposition will also grow to appreciate the convenience, improvements, and increased property values resultant of this project and ALL of the shopping, services and jobs (driven to and walk-able) that will follow Costco. But if not, I still feel this was the right decision. And while there may be a better place for it, it is on a hard corner on a State highway, and it’s really not our land or business to decide that. It’s also not fair to the other communities we trek through to get to our shopping, services, and jobs because we don't want them in our back yard. Again, thanks for your time and I hope we can get similar projects in the Que, so that Chinden can finally get done and this community can be adequately served. Unfortunately, this is still an open application, so we're unable to discuss details. However, I would invite you to watch the City Council meeting on our city YouTube channel or read the minutes that can be found on the city's website so you can fully understand our decision as it relates to this project. You'll find accurate information there. I also would love to sit down and talk about this project in more detail when we're able. It might bring more clarity to your concerns... My Best, -- Treg A. FYI, those neighbors will oppose any development that’s not single family or a school, and they are actually separated by other commercial property, which they’ll probably oppose. This comes at a time when the City seems to be welcoming Costco with open arms, without improvements to the roadway? Why is it they are held to a different standard? Do these neighbors concerns, justify losing this and possibly two Winco developments (Overland project now dead)? We must bring services and shopping closer to home, for convenience, increased property values, and reduced traffic. Please think this decision through and for the record, I live at the corner of Meridian and Chinden.
