Chinden I am pro-business with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration – Marketing from the Foster School of Business and NOT naïve of the implications this approve lends – both pros and cons. It was blatantly clear there were specific council members that were influenced prior to the hearing. I’m in awe of the negligence, bias and unprofessionalism of the statements from the council members. There was such a lack of leadership and you allowed the applicant to RUN the hearing – shame on you , City Council for focusing on the “look” of the property proposal versus the application itself. You can’t put lipstick on a PIG! You were focused on the short term gain vs. fixing existing known issues. Utterly baffled! Chinden Hello City Clerk of Meridian, My name is Jasi Packard, and I live in Spurwing community with my family. We just moved here in July 2017. My husband and I were raised in Boise, and attended Borah High. We left for college to attend University of Washington, and have returned back to our home. We moved to Meridian as it was very family friendly and community-oriented. We specifically moved to Spurwing due to LOCATION. We gravitated to the quaint setting and COMMUNITY aspect. I have a bachelor’s degree in Business / Marketing from the University of Washington and my husband has a Business / Finance degree from UW – and we clearly comprehend the business objective and fully support growth in the Treasure Valley, diversification of industries and increase of jobs/decrease in unemployment; however, the 360 surrounding area of this property are 100% residential COMMUNITIES and will NOT accomplish these business goals in the long term if Meridian passes Costco. It does NOT make sense to disrupt established communities with yet another large big box retailer. This has many downstream implications, such as increased traffic that the current infrastructure can’t support, increased crime, decrease of valuation of home – as this areas is solely single-home families. Despite Costco funding widening Chinden road – the traffic this location will bring across the valley is beyond Chinden Road. What about Ten Mile? What about Linder Road? We purchased this home with the understanding that Brighton would further build homes – NOT commercial businesses. We understanding there are nearby big box retailers. Fred Meyers is adjacent to a strip mall. Walmart is across the street from medical businesses. In this particular case – there are NO established commercial businesses. The only adjacent property other than residential is a LSD church. There are various properties along Ten Mile that will 2 accomplish Costco’s business need and desired target market right off I-84 and Ten Mile – why go deep into an established residential environment? While living in the Puget Sound area – the HQ of Costco – NONE of the Costco’s in the Seattle and adjacent Costcos built in prodomentidly residential locations. If you look up – majority are build in Commercial/industrial locations – NOT SURROUNDED by neighborhoods. My family and I strong are against a BIG BOX retailer across the street in our neighborhood. We are confident this will disrupt our community, and only appease a short term gain for Brighton developers. The cost of allowing the City of Meridian to approve this will tarnish the communal, neighborhood attribute Meridian brings to it’s residents. Fundamental macro economics indicates this specific properly will disrupt the community e.g. 24 hour Costco inventory deliveries, increase crime, increase traffic in an already unstainable and supported infrastructure. For all these reasons noted above, on behalf of my family and myself – we please ask Meridian to consider our perspective. Thank you, Jasi, Justin and Malia Packard 6719 N Levenham Ave Meridian, Idaho 83646 206-913-3196
