I researched this issue and found a Costco in Gig Harbor Washington that was 2 required by the City to be compatible with its residential context. I also found a Costco in Woodland Hills, California with a design that responded well to it's unique surroundings. Costco was able to justify the added expense in these locations which likely produce revenue similar to a Meridian location. Both of these examples effectively reduced the impact of the "Big Box" and added to their locations' unique "sense of place". I believe that Meridian, Idaho and this location in particular deserve similar consideration as these other non-industrial locations. In fact, Costco could easily adapt the building design and landscaping of the Gig Harbor Costco for its proposed Meridian location to address most of the aesthetic and contextual concerns.
