SUBJECT: 2018 UDC Text Amendment — Narrative
Mayor and City Council Members:
In accord with Meridian City Code 11-5, the Planning Division of the Meridian Community Development
respectfully submits a zoning text amendment application.
The proposed update is meant to modify certain sections of the Unified Development Code (UDC) as follows:
1. Table 11-2A-2 — Proposes to allow daycare groups as a conditional use permit in the R-4 district;
2. UDC 11 -3D -8(A)16 — Remove this requirement so all lawfully established uses in the O -T district have the
ability to apply for a portable sign permit.
3. UDC 11-4-3-9(A)4 — Modify the daycare facility standards to allow the background checks and fire
inspections occur with certificate of occupancy rather than prior to the issuance of the certificate of zoning
compliance.
4. UDC 11-4-3-27(B)3 —Allow the multi -family private open space standards to be eligible for alternative
compliance.
5. Table 11-513-5 — Modification to this table to coincide with the request above in 44 above.
6. UDC 11 -6C -3(B)3 — Modifying this subdivision street names standards to align with the newly adopted Title
8, Chapter 2, Uniform Street Name and Addressing Number Code.
All of the proposed changes to the UDC including the support documents are attached for your review in PDF
format. This round of proposed UDC text changes were not shared with the UDC Focus Group and the BCA
because these are minor clean-up items and should not impact the development community.
City Staff believes the proposed changes will make the implementation and use of the UDC more understandable
and enforceable.
