03-27 Mike Scrima1 Christopher Johnson From:Christopher Johnson Sent:Wednesday, March 28, 2018 9:08 AM To:'Mike Scrima' Subject:RE: Costco Mr. Scrima, Thank you for your email. We will add your comments to the public testimony for this project. The Lost Rapid project (H- 2018-0004) that you are referring to is scheduled to be heard before City Council at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 3. Since this will be the first time this application has been brought before City Council, I believe you may have been viewing the Planning and Zoning Commission. Most types of land use applications are first heard by the Planning and Zoning Commission. At those public hearings, the commission makes a recommendation to council, however they do not approve or deny the project. Your public testimony is always welcome. City Council, as well as our Commissioners, consider the record, including public testimony, when making their decision. Knowing and working with our Commission and Council members, I can tell you that public testimony is considered and read. If you have not accessed the project file yet for Lost Rapids, you can do so by clicking this link. Please let me know if I can assist further. From: Mike Scrima [ mailto:mascrima@yahoo.com ] Sent: Tuesday, March 27, 2018 5:10 PM To: City Clerk Subject: Costco People on our neighborhood website are asking for residents in the vicinity of the new Costco to send an email stating support for the project. WHY would they be doing that??? We watched the city council meeting. Mayor Tammy de Weerd and other pro Costco council members passed the resolution to approve Costco. It was clear to us in watching the meeting online, regardless of many many people from the surrounding neighborhoods testifying that it was a bad decision to put Costco in that location, that our mayor and her pro Costco council supporters already had their mind made up. It's a done deal. What is the point of having residents that will be impacted by Costco (either positively or negatively) putting forth their opinions now? Costco is a great store but putting it at Ten Mile and Chinden is going to make an already very congested area total grid lock. With no northbound traffic available on Ten Mile it 2 will be a mess. It is unfortunate that approving a Costco store at that location was really done to obtain $15,000,000 in road improvements to Chinden & Ten Mile. Please know that we love Idaho and we love our beautiful city of Meridian. We are just some of the many people against the Costco, in that location, that aren't naive to the City Council's motives. Fortunately not all of the council members went along for the Costco ride. We will be speaking to all of our friends and relatives to keep this decision fresh in mind. When it comes time to vote for city council and mayoral positions in the future, this decision will surely play a big part in who we vote for in the next election. Thank you.
