Sugar Tree Dr. Meridian, ID. 83646 208-781-1422 steviedi@hotmail.com 27 March 2018 Members of The Meridian City Council, We are writing to you today to express our concern and opposition to the application to re -zone and change the Comprehensive plan at N. Ten Mile and W. Chinden in order to allow a Costco and large fuel center. First and foremost let me say we are not anti -Costco or anti -growth, we are however in favor of smart growth and abiding by the current Comprehensive Plan. We feel a big box store such as Costco, as well as the large Fuel Center which will accompany the Costco, are not a good fit in such close proximity to a park and residential neighborhoods. The additional traffic on Lost Rapids alone, not to mention Ten Mile and Chinden, is a major safety concern. Just drive through the parking lot of any Costco on a Saturday or Sunday, would you want that traffic driving through your neighborhood? The purchase of ones home is one of the largest investments a person makes. When a person does their due diligence prior to that investment they have a reasonable expectation their elected City Officials will abide by the Comprehensive Plan set forth after much cost, research and planning. We urge you, please do not allow a developer with deep pockets and promises sway you to re -zone and change the current Comprehensive Plan. We are sure you have and will continue to hear from many who are in favor of the proposed Costco. We ask how many of those will be personally impacted by the thousands of extra cars driving through and by their neighborhoods on a daily basis? It is not a matter of "Not in my neighborhood", we would not want a Costco that close to anyone's neighborhood just to save a few minutes on our drive time! Respectfully, Rick and Stephanie Howe
