I am always appreciative when Meridian residents take the time and effort to let us know their feelings about what is happening in Meridian. Unfortunately, because this project is in the hearing process all communication has to be public, I am unable to comment directly to you. I have copied the City Clerk on this email so that it is part of the public record. Your comments are valued and appreciated. If not please provide me with the correct contact person or forward this on as needed. It was brought to our attention that a company is wanting to put in apartments on Ustick and Venable. Which would be right across the street from a large apartment complex that is already built. Which I understand has vacant apartments for rent. We are strongly opposing this. I feel this is not in the best interests of the home owners in Woodburn Subdivision and or the families that are in the Sawtooth and Rocky Mountain School Zone. As you know we are already overcrowded in the schools. Adding this additional apartments would add additional kids in the school district which they do not have the space. The 2 school district is still working on the overcrowding as it is. Ustick Road is finally finished with the road construction and adding additional homes would add to the road congestion. As it is already, we have a high volume of traffic during peak hours. With the new four lanes you already have drivers that go way to fast down this road. I think they have forgotten what the speed limit is. Putting the apartment entrance/exit on Venable would cause congestion. Venable is a single lane road, it would add so much traffic for the homeowners in Woodburn and the Settlers Park users. There is always sports going on and they use that entrance by the baseball fields. Adding 250 more vehicles is a lot of traffic. The increase in foot traffic through the neighborhood is unwanted. My kids attend Sawtooth Middle School. There is a large number of kids in the Woodburn Subdivision. We would like to keep it safe for them. The kids enjoy playing outside and using the subdivision parks. We want to make sure that our kids are able to enjoy the parks for which the Woodburn Subdivision pays for. Adding the apartments will add the foot traffic for older kids getting to school at Sawtooth and or getting on a bus to go to the elementary schools. I hope that the City of Meridian would take the homeowners feedback seriously when it comes to issues that would relate to them directly and on a daily bases. It is easy for the city to consider the pros and cons. When you live in the area that is going to be directly impacted, it can change your livelihood. When we purchased our home we had certain criteria that we tried to meet. Just like all families you want to make sure that your needs and wants are met, if you are going to spend a large amount of money on an investment. We work hard and do our best to make Meridian a great place to live with our family. I would hate for the rapid growth of this city be the main reason that we end up leaving the city. Growth is always good, but sometimes growing too fast can be harmful.
