We ask that you deny the request for this zoning change. We have owned a house in Spurwing Greens for six years this month, but we never would have purchased here if we thought the zoning would ever allow a warehouse type of business, such as Costco, to be built amongst a residential community such as Spurwing Greens and Bainbridge. We were told that this area was planned as a "premier" community, with residential and mixed use such as restaurants, offices, etc. To now try to change this long range planning that was done and allow businesses such as Costco to sit in the midst of our residences, is a complete breech of trust from our city leaders. We have been told that Costco has agreed to improve the roads around this area to the tune of about $15 million, however, that is completely false! We the citizens of Meridian will pay for the road improvements, as Costco will pay no sales tax to the city until they have recouped that $15 million plus interest! This, on top of the decrease in home values to our homes, will only increase our tax burden. Also, our neighborhood community will be totally altered and changed. With huge gas semi-trucks lining up at the corner gas station, the noise from idling trucks, and the air quality from their idling as well, will completely change the neighborhood that we have come to love. We believe that Costco could just as well move this location, and their "offer" of road improvement, to the half-mile point between Black Cat and Hgwy 16. They also own that land, a stop light could be put at that spot, and as of now there is no residential being built there. Why would this not be the preferred location? We know that Costco has not always made the best choices for their locations. Did they not choose the wrong place in Boise when they first came? They were not always at their present location south off of Cole were they?Costco has said that putting their wholesale warehouse out between Black Cat and Hgwy 16 is not as good because the extension of Hgwy 16 to the interstate is too many years out. But, that is the plan for 16, and it would be a much better place for this kind of business now and in the future. We ask that our city leaders stay with the original plan that was done by the city for this area, and under such planning we purchased homes in these communities, and DENY Costco the right to build at the corner of Ten Mile and Chinden. Respectfully, Don and Linda Carlson 4155 W Greenspire Drive 2 Meridian, Id 83646
