If it is not, then it affects everyone who has purchased property following that plan. A major commercial development was not part of the original plan. If we had wanted to live next to a large wholesale warehouse we would have built in a commercial area. We built in a residential community. Costco does not fit into a residential plan by description. Costco presents themselves, on their website, as a "wholesale warehouse". A warehouse operation is not where people shop for impulse items or for daily shopping. Safety is a great concern as the increased traffic will create many problems. One major one is that most cars leaving Costco and heading west will leave by Lost Rapids. This will take them directly past a city park and play ground. Is one injured child worth Costco being there instead of a commercial area where it belongs. Lost Rapids is not a large enough street for that much traffic. That area needs to remain zoned for light commercial and residential. No large commercial and preferably no apartments. Noise is another issue. We have friends that live a mile behind the Lowe's store on Eagle. They say that they can not even leave their windows open at night during the summer as the noise is too loud from the trucks delivering to Lowe's. This starts at about 3 am each morning. I know that Costco will tell you that this is not an issue with them, but, they will say anything to get them what they want. Once they are there, they will do as they please. A better location for Costco is Ten Mile and Franklin (commercial area) or at Chinden and Hwy 16. This would still be in the Meridian tax area. Keeping residential areas safe and livable for the residents of Meridian, we are the tax payers, should be the first and major concern. We should not be pushed around and have our property values diminished for an outside "wholesale warehouse". Meridian bills its self as a family friendly community and creates a comprehensive plan that property owners follow and live by. I would hate to think that this plan is being changed for the benefit of some outside source that does not have our interests and investment at heart. We know why Costco wants to build there but is Meridian really ready to change their identity or is it for some self serving reason.
