We are requesting Meridian City deny the application for a Costco and rezoning at the corner of Ten Mile and Chinden Blvd.
Adding 3000-5000 vehicles at this intersection will not only cause extreme congestion, but it will be a safety issue, and will
result in many unnecessary accidents. The proposed widening of streets will not be sufficient to accommodate this much
traffic. With Keith Bird Park across the street, children’s safety will be at risk with so many cars pulling in an out of Costco.
People who moved to this area did so because we wanted to get away from commercial businesses. It is unclear why Costco,
Brighten and Meridian City seem to think we “need” a Costco because it will be more convenient for residents. I can be to the
Nampa Costco within 12 minutes, I don’t need one any closer. And with all the traffic congestion that will ensue, it may be
faster to get to the Nampa Costco than the one that is proposed to be 1/2 mile from our house.
Cars already cut through the Bainbridge Subdivision on Lost Rapids to avoid stoplights. The other day, I was going 25 on this
residential street by the Park, and a car blew by me in what I would guess was 50 MPH. This will only get worse if a Costco
and rezoning is approved.
We are very concerned of our property values. What was a desirable place to live a year ago, is no longer.
There are many places that Costco could locate that would better accommodate the traffic and not be in residential area.
Please deny this application
