Quite honestly, it shocks me that this was approved through planning and zoning as well as ACHD. Putting a Costco in next to 2 parks in the middle of a residential area makes no sense especially when you consider the apartments and patio homes. Is there no concern for our children? I can't think of another store of any kind that generates the kind of traffic. I would suggest that members of the city council come by on a weekend to see the kind of traffic that is generated by the soccer games at Hero's park. In addition, with a Costco going in, there would be a major increase in traffic on Lost Rapids/Tree Farm as people seek to avoid the Costco traffic on Ten Mile. This means, you've got major traffic going by a city park. I understand that Costco has agreed to finance certain road expansions in the direct vicinity (though I've also heard that they're just loaning the money and would be paid back with interest). This, however, doesn't address a big part of the issue. Given the fact that there are no Costco's in West Boise/Eagle or Meridian, the traffic will likely be coming from the Eagle Road area, which means a significant increase in traffic on Chinden, where it has yet to be widened (from Eagle to Linder). I haven't heard what the timing of the proposed road expansion is in the direct area around Ten Mile and Chinden is, but if this does go through, I would certainly hope that all of the expansion take place prior to Costco going in. One of my primary frustrations is the fact that we looked at the zoning around us prior to purchasing our home in Bainbridge subdivision and at that time, it wasn't zoned for a Costco or apartments. Doesn't seem right that we (and others in the area) purchased our homes at least partially based on that fact and then it gets changed, despite the feedback from the residents in the area. I could certainly understand a Maverick or a Walgreens going in, but a Costco in the middle of a residential area? Please respect the wishes of the residents in the area and vote No. Send a message to Costco and Brighton that just because they have money, we still make decisions based on what is right and makes sense. Appreciate your time. Thanks - Kevin Stevenson 4112 W Lost Rapids Dr Meridian, ID 83646
