This new store will be a welcome shopping addition by many residents of Meridian as well as the residents of Eagle, Star, Emmett, and additional Idaho communities to the north. It seems to me to be a waste of time debating the merits of Costco and growth of the city in general. What matters lies in your hands, and that is, " Will Costco be developed in a location that is a part of a smart long range plan for growth of our city, one that puts citizen safety and livability as the top priority?" LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Our city is not out of space for large scale commercial growth, so there are real alternatives and choices regarding the location of a behemoth retail entity with a huge fuel filling center. Brighton Corp representatives said at the recent planning commission hearing that there is available property where Hwy 16 meets Chinden Blvd, a location that is not in an existing neighborhood of homes, parks, schools etc. It is incomprehensible to me why any public official would make changes to land use designations allowing a huge Costco entity to build in an existing neighborhood when there are other choices! TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE! The proposed traffic plans for development in the Lost Rapids Application are clearly the "accident looking for a place to happen"! Again, it is unfathomable to me that one could even consider being a party to a plan that would send enormous trucks into that neighborhood and establish a gigantic fueling station that would encourage even more large vehicles to enter and exit. The suggested small scale expansions of Ten Mile and Chinden will not even begin to solve the traffic problems that would be created by this application. It is a patchwork, appeasing, non-gratuitous plan. Residents who live in the vicinity will have their resident livability plummet should this plan prevail. I ask you to send the applicants back to the drawing board to find a new location for the Meridian Costco and to propose use for the corner of Chinden and Ten Mile in keeping with the City's comprehensive plan. The applicants have not b rought good thinking or good work to you; you must do the good thinking and good work for the City of Meridian and its residents. Respectfully submitted, Elaine Taylor 3828 W Snow Cherry Court Meridian, Idaho 83646
