Here's what they had to say: Request for Mayor and Council Name Lin pyles _replyto ljpyles@q.com Street Address 976 E Kaibab Trail City Meridian State Idaho Zip Code 83646 Subject High density housing Message I understand that growth is natural. I understand that several big journals have rated us number one so everyone wants to move here. What I am having a hard time understanding is why all these (mostly out of state) developers are being allowed to go crazy on developing this wonderful town, especially all the high density building that is going on without any thought to developing the infrastructure that needs to go along with it. I get sick every time I drive past McMillan and Meridian with those three story apartments being built. The problems they will create for those who live in this area now! I also understand you are approving a four story apartment complex on Ustick and Linder area. STOP! Already, ENOUGH! Already. Meridian has never been about high density living! It is just making millions for all these developers and encouraging outrageous growth from mostly out of staters. And guess who has to clean up the mess afterward, we the tax payers because our library is crazy overused (and btw, they do an AMAZING job with what they have), we need more schools, fire departments, roads, etc. I, and any neighbor I have talked to, would love to see the growth in this town slow down and stop being so reckless. I would love to see these developers who take millions out of this state after they are done, be required to put infrastructure in. Oh, you can’t legally require them to do it? Start refusing their plans saying the infrastructure needs time to catch up and the people are not ready to add more tax burden. If you the developer would like to build and pay for a new school, library, donate x amount to update our sewer system, etc, than maybe we can make an agreement sooner. And, NO, you (the developer) aren’t getting reimbursed through taxes later on. But PLEASE, city council, let’s limit high density building to condos for a long time. I want to live in this wonderful community, not some place that has become overtaxed and over built in every way. Apartment living is too transient, especially the very high density building that is being approved now. We have enough in Meridian now. Let’s focus on housing (mostly single family homes) and infrastructure that will continue to make this an awesome city to live in. And let us make the developers put in their share. They are still going to walk away with millions that most of them will take out of state. 3 The developers are going to fight you hard at first because they are so used to being handed what they want on a silver platter. When they realize that Meridian means business on keeping this a great place to live without burdening it’s citizens and without senseless growth, they will come around. Several cities throughout the US have made such requirements. They came, they built, they put in infrastructure, and than walked away with their millions. So, please, it is okay to slow growth down and keep the idea of what makes Meridian a great place to live, alive and well. I know right now it has been lost. Let’s demand it back- both the citizens and those that represent us! You all were voted in with the belief that you would put us (the citizens of Meridian) first and that you would preserve the city we live in as it continued to grow. We do not need to be a a slave to everyone else’s whim. We need to keep this an awesome place to live in. So, please, keep the people and families that live here now, that voted you into office, in mind as you discuss and approve plans for the growth of our lovely town. Meridian is not about high density living, we are a home town community. Not a big city community. The four story apartment complex near Ustick and Linder (near Crossfield subdivision) needs to be scratched. Let them put in a nice condo subdivision, if they want higher density with a play area , etc. or a 55 plus housing project. Let’s start keeping the spirit of Meridian, the home town, NOW! We are not, and don’t want to be a big city. Sincerely Lin Pyles This form was submitted at 06:19 PM UTC - 17 March 2018.
