Message I support the new Costco project. As long as we are going to continue to grow, we
need jobs to support the people moving in.
Although it is somewhat out of your role, I do ask that all of you please consider the
impact of growth beyond our city boundaries. The infrastructure of the community as
a whole must be taken into consideration. The explosive housing growth allowed in
Meridian, without any impact fees to the builders, continue to decrease my homes sale
value, while my taxes automatically increase at the maximum rate every year. That is
within your role. However, it also is impacting our roads and airports, which are out
of your immediate responsibility, yet it still impacts your Meridian residents and need
to be part of a holistic approach needed by you all. In other words, the inability of
this Meridian resident to find a parking spot at the airport on a frequent basis may not
seem like your opportunity, but when this community hands out building permits, it
needs to be considered for the betterment of the entire community. Your first
responsibility is to Meridian, and I understand that, and compliment you on the job
you all are doing well there. I am just asking you to look broader when it comes to
things that impact us all throughout the greater community. Unless Meridian is
planning an airport anytime soon, we need to have a voice and a seat at the table with
those communities as well.
