Here's what they had to say: Request for Mayor and Council Name Tony Chance _replyto tubbymxrider@yahoo.com 2 Street Address 2229 W. Bellagio Dr City Meridian State ID Zip Code 83646 Subject Costco in Meridian Message As a proud resident of Meridian, Idaho I wanted to take a quick minute to address why I feel Meridian, Idaho would be the perfect spot for the next Costco to go in at the proposed area of Ten Mile and Chinden Blvd. I was at one of the meetings for the citizens of Meridian to be able to voice their concerns on why Costco should/ should not go in. I truly had to laugh at some of the "reasons" why people were so adamantly opposed to it. While everyone has the right to their opinion, I will keep this message sh ort and to the point of why I feel the Mayor, City Council, Planning and Zoning and whoever else would be involved with the approval of Costco to be able to go in at such said spot should happen. 1. Jobs: Putting in a Costco in Meridian would mean that many more jobs, especially at a known business with great pride, respect, involvement with its employees AND the community it serves. It is hard to turn down a place where meridian residents would have the opportunity to have a CAREER at Costco in their own community. 2. Taxes: While I do not know all the finite details of taxes and assessed properties, I do know that over time, this will bring in a great amount of money back into the CITY of Meridian based on the size, type of building and business. While this should never be a sole reason to approve, or disapprove a business, it should not be disregarded that this will essentially bring money BACK into the city, which can then be used for parks, schools, YMCA, libraries, etc. 3. Level of excitement: I am sure many of the people in the neighborhood directly by Costco might not be the happiest but I know that Costco coming to Meridian has been major buzz for years now! People from meridian, eagle, northwest boise, Star, would be able to shop at a Costco closer to home versus trying to make their way to Nampa or South Boise to go shopping there. I live in Bridgetower, ( ustick/ten mile) and I couldn't be more excited to have a Costco 3 minutes from my house. I would be willing to bet that MORE people than not would be excited to have a Costco in Meridian based on convenience and shopping alone. I will close by addressing a couple of the negative things I keep hearing as a common theme of why some residents do not want a Costco here right now. 1. Growth: It has been NATIONALLY known that Meridian, Idaho is one of the FASTEST growing cities in the united states. With that being said, if you knew this, then why would these people move to meridian, only to complain? They can move to Emmett, Middleton, Payette, if they don't "like the growth" around here. How many cities in the nation would love to have the growth we are experiencing? With growth comes new business, new properties, new jobs, its what makes a city flourish. If these negative people want to complain, I am sure they can put there house up for sale, it will sell in one day, then they can move to the country living where it is nice and quiet for them. 2. Chinden Road: The infamous traffic on Chinden Road. The traffic is, and will continue to be a m ess until the road is fully expanded to four lanes but so much of that has to do with ACHD. By putting a Costco in at that intersection is NOT going to 3 "create" more traffic. The traffic is already there!!! Costco already stated they "proposed widening and improving Chinden Blvd from Linder Road to Highway 16, and widening and improving Ten Mile Rd from Chinden to Milano Road". This would give designated lanes for the so called "traffic" to turn into the business. Oh, and guess what, we are still going to have traffic on Chinden and Ten Mile. Its what happens whens cities grow!!!!! Thank you for taking the time to read my points about why Meridian, Idaho should APPROVE the Costco to go in at Ten Mile and Chinden Blvd. This form was submitted at 01:34 AM UTC - 01 March 2018.
