Subject New Costco on Chinden
Message As one of the many neighbors to the Costco project in Meridian and recipient of your
meeting letter, I will offer my thoughts as suggested as I can not attend the meeting.
I moved here from an area that had multiple Costco's, and not all were the Freeway
although two were and others in the state had moving distances as well. Having said
that, this site is adjacent to HWY20-26--not a freeway of course. This site is about 6
miles from I-84 and those 6 miles are the longest distance to a freeway that I am
aware of in other locations (2 miles further than my former experience).
It is my understanding that Chinden is already zoned for many commercial businesses
in this area and that means a wider Chinden, more traffic etc. The added subdivisions
will add more traffic but there are a lot of locations that will be built along this
corridor--just a matter of time.
We set almost dead center of the two local Costco's and would welcome this new site
for many reasons but the primary reason is that little will change in that area even if
Costco backs out. There is no doubt there will be traffic congestion but if the
engineers involved do their jobs correctly, this would, in the broad sense, not add as
much grief as indicated by those who are strongly against this complex.
