Message We will be out of town during the March 1st planning meeting but I would like to
voice my support for the Costco project at Chinden and Ten Mile Road. I have two
basic reasons for supporting this project. First of all, every Costco complex I have
seen in Idaho (Nampa and Twin Falls) and in the Kansas City area where I moved
from has done a great job of insulating the surrounding subdivisions from the
complex. This is done by erecting tall walls and putting the store in the middle of the
space instead of right up to the edge of the space allotted. I drove by one such
complex in the Kansas City area and I could not even tell the store was there until I
drove by the entrance. These walls looked no different than the walls for the
subdivisions themselves. Secondly, we shouldn’t just become a subdivision
community with the businesses located in one area only. This causes major traffic
headaches even when the roads have been widened to accommodate the traffic (I.e.
Eagle Road). I believe those who oppose the Costco project do so because they want
to be insulated from business traffic and noise. As long as the businesses adhere to the
aesthetic rules Meridian appears to have in place I don’t think you should deny the
project.
