Subject Favoring Proposed Costco/Brighton Developments at Ten Mile and Chinden
Message Dear Mayor and City Council,
As residents of Meridian, living in the immediate area of the proposed new Costco
development, we are sending this letter IN FAVOR OF THE PROPOSAL, to change
the city's master plan and rezone the areas at Ten Mile and Chinden, allowing the
Costco Corporation and the Brighton Corporation (to the west) to develop their
projected plans.
Having attended one of the neighborhood outreach meetings conducted by Brighton
and Costco, we fully understand the concerns of fellow homeowners. Increased
traffic and impact on residential property values weigh heavily on many minds.
However, our city is growing and with that growth comes increased "public demand
for services." Property taxes are only one revenue stream for county or city
services. Meridian, like every city, needs a strong and growing business and retail
sales tax base. Since both Chinden (State Highway) and Ten Mile (Ada County
Highway) are already well established business and retail corridors, the improvements
the Costco project will make to those roadways, is a win for the state, the county and
the city -- and ultimately for we residents of Meridian who expect certain services
from all three entities. We know that you will weigh you decision carefully for it has
far reaching implications.
