Subject For Meridian Costco
Message I am writing in regard to the March 1, 2018 Planning and Zoning meeting.
I would like to weigh in in favor for the new Meridian Costco at the intersection of
Chinden and Ten Mile. I work near the intersection of Chinden and Eagle road and
live near the intersection of Meridian and Victory. I have long petitioned Costco to
build a Meridian store that would be convenient to me and the citizens of
Meridian. As you may know it is very difficult to access either the Boise or Nampa
Costco after work due to the heavy traffic on I-84 the continues from 4pm to
6:30pm.
The location that Costco has selected will serve a large portion of Meridian and also
the Eagle, Star, and Emmett communities. I know that existing residents near the
proposed site will not want additional traffic or any development in their neighboring
open fields, but this is truly unrealistic. The developer will still put in a development
and will still have an anchor store. The community is growing and progress is
required.
The site should be appropriate for the city's comprehensive plan since it is on a major
highway and a major intersection.
I know that everyone wants the benefits of a development and progress but no one
wants it in their backyard. This seems to be human nature. But if we followed this
path there would be no stores, no power lines, no cellphone towers, no schools, no
highways, no progress. Meridian is a growing vibrant community and needs to
continually add to its commercial infrastructure to support its growing population.
I thank you all for the fine work you do managing our fine city. I appreciate all you
do.
Sincerely,
Brent DeSpain
