Subject Costco Support!
Message Greetings!
My name is Alicia Rosales. I am a lifelong Treasure Valley resident and a proud
home owner in Meridian since 2008. I am writing today to express my enthusiastic
support for the proposed Costco development on the corner of Chinden and Ten
Mile. My home is located off of Ten Mile and Ustick. Over the last 10 years we have
witnessed a lot of new development, while the building phase is always a little
challenging the end result has been well worth the growing pains (example: the Ten
Mile Interchange)! As a lifelong resident I can reminisce with the best of them about
the “good ‘ole days” when Meridian was just a small bedroom community and there
were small pockets of neighborhoods sporadically between large swaths of acreage. I
fondly remember the two lane roads and corner stores up and down the Treasure
Valley. That said, I have also seen what happens when responsible commercial
development meets inevitable residential growth and what happens when it doesn’t!
Meridian is one of the fastest growing communities in the country. I remember when
the Village at Meridian went in and I thought to myself “There is no way we need this
kind of a development over here.” I was so wrong. Today, you will be hard pressed
to find an available parking spot or a dinner reservation on the weekend. The
commercial development brought with it improvements to nearby roads, employment
opportunities, convenience for shopping and dining, and an overall increase in
property value in the nearby neighborhoods.
I LOVE meridian. I love the sense of community. I love the parks and the dedication
to recreation. I continue to be impressed by the neighbors who reach out to help
neighbors. I also LOVE Costco! Those of us living in west Meridian neighborhoods
have to drive 20 minutes or more to access Costco and many other retail chains and
restaurants. This increases traffic flowing out of Meridian to neighboring areas and
creates congestion and frustration on the roads and in the parking lots, particularly
during winter weather. I look forward to the convenience of Costco less than 5
minutes away. I look forward to the improvements in infrastructure that will come
with these developments. I welcome the additional commercial development that will
open restaurants and yoga studios (wishful thinking) so that I don’t need to wait 45
minutes to get a table on a Friday or Saturday night.
My husband and I work full time and are raising two beautiful daughters in
Meridian. We look forward to growth that brings convenience and we look forward
to staying here for decades to come. We know that with growth comes change and
while sometimes difficult we have confidence that our local leaders will move
forward with the best interests of all Meridian residents, not just those who live in the
adjacent neighborhoods to proposed developments.
Sincerely,
3
