Subject: Bainbrige North/GFI-Costco zoning changes in Opposition.
Dear Sir or Madam:
I write this correspondence in regard to the proposed re-zoning at Ten mile and West Chinden for the Bainbridge
North/GFI-Costco project. I have attended the two public meetings provided by Brighton Corp and Costco to date.
After hearing the proposal by Brighton and Costco I'm not in favor of this rezoning request. I list my reasons below for your
review and reference based on public meetings to date.
1. The only reason Brighton and Costco could give the public attending this meeting for re-zoning is th at it would speed up
the expansion of HWY 20 into 4 lanes. They want to put a warehouse in a residential neighborhood and this is the only
reason they could come up with to credit there request for re-zoning.. What they did not say is that the Idaho
Transportation commission is already planning for this expansion at a future date. When asked about this the Costco
Brighton group stated that this was a political decision. Not sure what they mean by that response.
2. No one at this meeting [approx.150 people] was there because of wanting a HWY 20 enlargement. They were present
because they did not want a warehouse in there neighborhood.
3. The Costco Brighton representatives were asked why they did not build on a site 1 1/2 miles away that already had
infrastructure and the amount of land needed. There answer was this 1 1/2 miles away from there ideal location.
4. When asked what other residential locations Costco had built around the country like the one proposed they had no
answer. I've visited Costcos around the nation and have never found a warehouse in a residential neighborhood as
proposed.
5. The question was asked what time do Costco Semi trucks delivery goods to Costcos. The answer 4:00AM to 8:00 AM
which is when children go to school and school buses are on the roads. They had no answer on how this would effect
school children or traffic flow.
6. When asked if Brighton and Costco had pre approval from Idaho Transportation that HWY 20 would be expanded. The
response was that would happen after building and rezoning approval. So they based approval on Expansion of HWY 20
but do not yet have a firm commitment from Idaho Transportation.
In conclusion by reviewing of facts. I'm opposed to this request by Costco Brighton Corporations as it offers property
owners of Meridian nothing of value for this project.
I thank you in advance for your time and interest in review of this correspondence.
Sincerely,
Tucker Grant
