Subject Costco development
Message I'm writing to voice my support of the Costco proposal on Ten Mile and Chinden. I
will not be in town to attend the meeting on March 1 but I do want my opinion to be
heard. With the growing population and increase in number of families in this area,
whether people like it or not, having more conveniences close to home is essential. I
am in full support of the Costco being built, and I am in very close proximity to the
area. I live in Oakleaf subdivision, which is an offshoot of Spurwing Greens. I
understand the changes that will occur to the area, but I feel like Costco has gone
above and beyond to try to make this as good for everyone as possible. My support is
as follows:
-The road changes need to be done one way or another, the traffic in this area is very
bad. Having Costco make these much needed changes benefits the city and is making
sure things are done right, as Costco always does.
-Morning commute will not be affected. Costco does not open until 10:00 during the
week which is during a very slow period of the day. Morning traffic should not be
affected.
-The site map clearly shows that there are two future subdivisions going in around the
Costco, essentially blocking the existing neighborhoods from site. Any purchasers
that choose to live in those subdivisions being built will know far ahead of time what
they're in for, and it will not be against their will. I'm sure homes will be priced
accordingly.
-I now drive to Nampa to go to Costco, sometimes two times a week. I am not alone
in this. Why not have a local Meridian store that we can support, rather than traveling
to Boise or Nampa? Meridian is the 2nd largest city in the state and this is the fastest
growing area. This development only makes sense.
-The people in opposition may be loud, but they do not have numbers. Most people I
talk to are in support of this or are fine either way, I hope you take into consideration
the masses and needs of the community, not just the loudest community members that
are against growth and may be past the age of needing amenities like this nearby
because of lack of children being at home.
I hear it all the time, we do not want this growth in our area. There is nothing that
anybody can do about that. The only way to deter people from moving here is to
somehow make the community undesirable, which giving in to this constant
3
opposition will do. It will be undesirable to all of us. We should be proud of our
community and the fact that so many people around the nation want to move here. I
am embracing them, as this community did to me 10 years ago when I moved here. I
am asking that you approve this request by Costco to move forward with the
development. Thank you for your consideration.

Subject Costco development...continued
Message I wrote in earlier but there is one other point I wanted to make regarding my support
of the Costco. If not this store, then what? If it turns into housing developments there
will be housing built for potentially hundreds to thousands of people to enter the small
area. This will only increase traffic and congestion even further on our roads, stores,
and parks. It will increase cost to the city as well for road changes, as the traffic will
get even more out of control. I would much rather have a store that is open very
reasonable hours than have multi-family housing complexes or hundreds of homes
being built that only adds to morning and evening traffic congestion. Thank you for
your time.
