Jay Coles City Clerk I am sending this email concerning the proposed Costco at Chinden Blvd and Ten Mile. We are not in favor of this project for several reasons. The main reason is that Costco is not the type of business that needs to be in a residential community. It is a destination type of a store that most people go to once or twice a month. It is not an impulse store where one stops off for milk, bread, etc. on the way home after work or stops at several times a week. It does not need to be that close to residents so that it creates road congestion. It needs to be in a commercial location. We do have a membership to Costco but do not find that it needs to be that close to our home. If Costco is trying to attract customers from Eagle, Star and points North then it should be located on highway 44 or even South at Ten Mile and Franklin Rd. Our understanding was that Meridian was trying to create self-sustaining neighborhoods which Costco does not by nature fit into that description. It is a large bulk buying warehouse store that people drive from afar to make large monthly purchases. We are not opposed to small local type business such as restaurants, gas stations, convenience type stores. 2 I understand that there are a number of people campaigning for this location that do not live in this area that will be affected buy traffic and even live closer to the current Costco locations than I do. This store would create too much traffic that would travel too fast so close to a city park. Our children in the neighborhood would not be safe. Lost Rapids traffic would be too heavy and fast as people would be cutting through to get to Costco Thank You Richard Carlson 3784 W Vanderbilt Dr. Meridian, ID 83646 dccarlson17@q.com
