For those of us that live on 10 Mile, what was once a peaceful street that helped attract us to Meridian has now become a horrible nightmare. Trying to get into, or out of, many of the subdivisions on 10 Mile has gotten to be quite dangerous. In the Candlelight subdivision, just south of the 10 Mile and Ustick intersection, getting in and out has gotten to be routinely dangerous, and m any of us are concerned that it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt, or worse while trying to get into or out of our subdivision. With one of our only two entrances being just before the intersection on 10 Mile, and the other being just before the intersection on Ustick, we unfortunately don’t have a lot of options. I have personally called ACHD Traffic Safety numerous times requesting relief. Other neighbors have also called; we are all aware of just how precarious our situation has become. So far to date, ACHD has posted a sign to not block the entrance, but drivers routinely ignore it. I have been promised by ACHD that they will “review the situation” but nothing ever seems to come of it. I have gone so far as to talk to Sgt. Arnold at the MPD, but mainly out of frustration as I knew there was nothing he could do. Adding the enormous traffic load to 10 Mile a Costco would generate would be bad for all of the residents in the 10 Mile area; for those of us living in Candlelight, it would turn an already bad situation into one that is far worse. Both the Boise and Nampa Costco stores were built in a way that did not endanger residential areas by having them built near the Interstate. Building a Costco in an area that has been primarily residential, and having even more heavy traffic pass through a primarily residential area, does not strike me as being a particularly great idea. Would it not be a much more amenable and safer option for the residents of Meridian to propose the vacant lands between Franklin Road and the Interstate? It would keep your constituents safer, and give Costco the infrastructure and highway access they need at the same time. Kind regards, Gary Ainsworth
