We came to Idaho for a job opportunity and have thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Gem State and as citizens of Meridian. I would like to bring my concerns to you as a member of Meridian government regarding the Linder Village Proposal. When we were looking for a home we had many options of cities (and homes) to choose from including Boise, Eagle, Nampa, Middleton, Star, and Meridian to name a few. We asked our realtor many questions about each city and plans for future growth. We specifically asked about the now proposed Linder Village site. We were told at the time it was not zoned for large scale commercial businesses and the thought 2 years ago was that it would likely develop into mixed use residential and small businesses. That information factored greatly into our decision to buy a home in the Paramount subdivision of North Meridian which is adjacent to the proposed Linder Village site. While the convenience of Costco and Winco so close seems appealing, the aftermath of two large box stores and additional commercial pads so close to the neighborhood will impact everyone living in Paramount. It will draw people from Middleton, Star and West Eagle - servicing a much broader "community" that it was intended to serve. And yes, even though Chinden may get widened, it will not be enough to account for all the development on that corner in total. The increased traffic as people cut through the neighborhood will not just be a nuisance to drivers, but a safety risk to children (including mine!) and affect the general feel of our walking paths and parks we now enjoy. When I think of how busy a Winco parking lot is and how crowded a Costco parking lot is and put them together, I cringe. The proposed big box retail zoning change flies in the face of what Meridian leaders have set out for this area of Meridian to be as documented in the future land use map. I hope and ask the city council to follow the plan the council set out years ago to preserve Meridian as it is today, one of the best places to live in America! Thank you for your time.
