Thank you, Ms. Allen, for your considerate response. I do understand that any applicant has a right to request whatever they feel is needed to advance their position. That's fair. But in the interest of ensuring a level playing field, we hope the Commission does not have inexhaustible patience. We are aware that Costco has shifted its interest down the road to Ten Mile, so that doesn't strike us as a concession by the developer. Removal of any "big box" regardless of brand would be a substantial concession in my personal view. We'll continue to monitor this. Meanwhile, thank you again and have a great holiday weekend. It’s the applicant’s right to request continuance; however, it’s the Commission’s decision whether they approve the request or not. From my discussions with the applicant, they’re making revisions to the plan to better coincide with the City’s Comprehensive Plan for that area and are removing the “big box” that was proposed for Costco. I’m unsure of other changes they’re making as the City has not yet received the revised application. 2 Thank you for your comments. Your email will be included in the public record for this project. Greetings. I understand the developer has requested a continuance until October 19. While it may be common to routinely grant such requests, I must object in the strongest possible way. Many of us have been working for weeks to inform our neighbors of the issues and organize a sizeable turnout for the he aring. These are citizens and taxpayers, yes, but mostly they are people with lives. There are schedules to arrange, babysitters to hire. In our case, it was an agonizing decision, but we delayed flying to a friend's memorial service by a day so we could attend the September 7 hearing. This would be the second continuance granted, and once again it is coming just a few days before the hearing date. Are there any rules governing these requests? Is this a result of sloppy work on the documents or do they keep changing their minds? Or are they delaying because they know there is substantial opposition in the community against this application and maybe we'll just go away? I promise you hundreds of Meridian residents are going to be asking these questions. I appreciate and respect that city planning and governing in general can be complicated and that public officials must serve a multitude of interests that are often conflicting. But it's a common feeling among many average citizens that the deck is stacked against them when faced against deep-pocketed commercial interests. We ask only for a fair shake and a chance to present our views. Then, it's up to you to make the best decision you can. But please, don't allow this developer to keep moving the target. 3 Sincerely, Doug Humphrey 693 W Dreyfuss Meridian, ID 83646 City of Meridian 33 E.
