Here's what they had to say: Request for Mayor and Council Name Kim Moss _replyto kimjin221@yahoo.com Street Address 2113 W Teano Dr City Meridian State Idaho Zip Code 83646-3555 Subject Linder Village/Winco Message Hi, I was very dismayed to see that the latest meeting for the new development at Linder and Chinden was met with such opposition that it was turned down by planning and zoning. I understand that homeowners are upset that live in the surrounding areas. However, Chinden has always been a state highway, and I think it's more unusual for so many homes and neighborhoods to back up to a state highway than retail and shops. As many other people probably feel, whenever you decide to purchase a home adjacent to empty fields, there is always the risk of a new development that might upset people one way or another. I'm sure if Linder and Chinden decided to place large apartment complexes, the same people would be upset, perhaps even more. 2 I have also lived in other states where Winco backs up to residential areas and although I was not present when Winco was being built, the finished result was that people really loved having a Winco right by them. I would almost bet that if Winco is approved, a large percentage of these people who originally opposed this idea would actually really like having the convenience of Winco and the competitive prices it brings to the area! For example, years ago before Target was built at Chinden and Eagle Rd, there was large opposition against it being built there. My in laws who live very close were very upset about it. However, now that it has been built, they have shopped there for years now! From what I understand, the developer is also going to help ease traffic congestion along Chinden by helping to pay for road widening up to several miles. This is a win for every person that lives in this area!!! Yes, traffic will increase with shops, but so it will with new neighborhoods, apartments, schools, etc. If we have the option of improving our road system in the next year or so versus the unforeseeable future if left in the hands of the ITD or the ACHD, then this would benefit thousands of commuters every day! I also feel from looking at the website for the new development at Linder and Chinden that the developer will be aiming for a higher upscale shopping area, similar to the Village. Albeit it might not be as nice without the water features, something built in this area will have a certain standard to maintain to being pleasing to the surrounding areas. I cannot tell you how many people who live by me are excited by the idea of a Winco (and a Costco) being so close and accessible in perhaps just a short time! I live only perhaps less than 2 miles from Linder and Chinden and the sentiment from neighbors and friends contrasts greatly to the few homeowners who are putting up a loud and tough fight. In the scheme of things, these few hundred people protesting is a very small percentage of the thousands of people who would benefit from this shopping complex. Also, I would like to point out that the added tax revenue Meridian would receive would be substantial over the course of months, years, and decades! It would be a huge boost for our thriving community and I strongly feel that all residents of Meridian would benefit from this over the course of many years. I would like to add that although it looks as if I have not been a resident of Meridian for long due to moves around the country for work and school, I am actually a native Idahoan and grew up in the Boise and Meridian area. I have witnessed first hand the explosion of new residents relocating to our beloved city and state. I feel that as our population keeps increasing, we also need to have conveniences and shops nearby th at will help ease congestion and traffic in other areas. If shopping is limited to so few of places, that will actually increase traffic around those areas. There's nothing bad in having shopping so near to home. I hope you have read my concerns. I really feel this would benefit many people long term. Thank you for your time! Kim Moss 3 208-921-3495 This form was submitted at 08:31 PM UTC - 21 October 2017.
