Subject: A letter against the Linder Village project as it is proposed
Dear P&Z Committee members and City officials,
As a resident of Meridian (and one who happens to live <100 feet from the plot in question, in Paramount), I am
writing to voice my concerns and displeasure regarding the plans I've seen thus far for Linder Village.
Like most other residents I've spoken with, I have anticipated, and am looking forward to, commercial
development on the Chinden/Linder parcel (presuming there's a buffer of additional homes between Paramount
and commercial). We're excited to have new places to shop and most importantly walk to - we resist crossing
Chinden Blvd on foot.
However, the current plan the developer is proposing, to drastically change the FLUM and put in regional-sized
stores, is highly problematic, for all the reasons I'm sure you're familiar with by now. I strongly oppose (and
will continue to oppose) big box, 30,000+ s.f. (max 60,000 for grocery store) buildings in this development, and
I urge you to:
- stick with the FLUM and the non-regional vision you've had all along for this corner - it's a good plan;
- require the appropriate "easing in" (for lack of a better word) to the largest commercial, e.g. low-density
housing, then higher density, then professional office space, then small retail, then larger retail... the way it's
supposed to be done in modern times.
I implore you to use your experience and common sense and reject the developer's plan as it stands.
Faithfully yours,
Brian Heffley
