Greetings,
Meridian is Idaho’s fastest growing city. A large part of what makes Meridian so attractive is the quality of life
afforded here. This quality is due, in part, to thoughtful city planning which has fostered responsible growth,
maintained a healthy balance between the residential and commercial needs of its residents, and kept traffic
flowing along its major arterials. It is our understanding that developers of Linder Village have applied to the
Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council to make extensive changes to the Meridian Comprehensive
Plan and Future Land Use Map. Approval of the developer’s application will negatively impact the quality of
life in our community and of North Meridian in general.

We are not opposed to growth, nor are we opposed to land development in our community. In fact, we had an
expectation of the eventual development of the south-east corner of Linder Road and Chinden Boulevard. What
we did not anticipate was the possibility of a change in the land use designation that is inconsistent with the
quality of life that we have enjoyed in this area. We prefer that the land is developed in a manner that is more
consistent with this city’s original Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Map.
The proposed Linder Village development adds another traffic light to Chinden Boulevard which breaks the
half-mile standard designated by the Compass plan. And allowing the construction of one or more large “box”
stores in that area, compounded with routine commuter traffic and students driving to and from adjacent Rocky
Mountain High School would surely create traffic woes on this already swollen corridor. Additionally, with
funds not available to widen Chinden until at least 2021, increased vehicular traffic within the Paramount
subdivision, which looks to have at least 4 access points to the proposed Linder Village, creates safety concerns
for our children. Residential neighborhoods are no place for big “box” stores. For these, and other reasons, the
proposed Linder Village development does not foster responsible growth on the part of our city.
If the proposed changes are approved and concessions are made for this developer, how can we be assured that
the integrity of the Meridian City Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Map will remain intact for future
land development? Please help us preserve the quality of life we currently enjoy in North Meridian and reject
the developer’s application.
Respectfully,
Jamie and Josh Femreite
