This is incorrect - I oppose any large store such as Winco being built there, I oppose the multiple proposed direct connections to my neighborhood among other things (please see my original email below). Large stores should be surrounded by other commercial development, not by a neighborhood and an overcrowded high school. These things do not mix well. Please don't misconstrue my general support for the growth of the City of Meridian as support for the proposed Linder Village plan - I think it would cheapen the Paramount subdivision and would create a traffic nightmare. I am excited about the future Linder Village development! However, I have concerns about the proposed plan to put in “big box” stores in this area. On paper this looks like a big area, but to those of us who live in the Paramount subdivision the field out there is pretty small looking, and very close looking. Putting stores that require the parking area proposed so close to a large subdivision on roads that are already very busy is a mistake. My concerns are as follows: 1) Traffic. I’m all for growth, but putting this much retail in such a small area on a corner that already backs up for miles every day (I have to drive it, it’s not good) will cause some serious traffic problems. I would be surrounded by traffic jam, and I moved here from Atlanta to escape that. Not only that, but the proposed plan hooks into streets in my neighborhood at several different places, which would greatly increase cross-neighborhood traffic flow. Please keep in mind that Paramount Elementary and Rocky Mountain High School already add very significant traffic to the neighborhood - a Winco, Costco, or the like will make this so much worse I believe people will start to move out of the neighborhood - it will no longer be the quiet kid-safe place it was created to be. Paramount will have to change its logo from “We Know Family” to “We Know Family - But Stay Away From the Streets!" 2) Keeping your promises and commitments. This proposed plan would change the current Meridian City plans in a way that not only set an alarming precedent but negatively impact my neighborhood and the surrounding neighborhoods in numerous ways. Many of us moved here to get away from the traffic and the 24 hour noise, and this plan threatens that. Like I said at the beginning I’m all for growth, but I don’t know of many prospering and desirable neighborhoods that have the lights of a 24 hour shopping center shining across it from next door - people move away from that stuff. 3) General fit. It seems strange to butt such a large complex right up against a neighborhood like this. Is there no better commercial setting or planned build-out for these large stores? Why does it have to be right next to our houses? It seems like putting it near Ten Mile or out that direction would better position it for maximum usage by our quickly growing population here in the Linder/Chinden area. 4) Desirable living and home values. I don’t know anyone who wants to live right next to a large 24 hour shopping complex. Putting large “big box” stores into this corner will negatively impact our home values. Thank you all, I appreciate the time you’ve taken to read my note here. Please consider my concerns in your decision, you will have a huge impact on my family’s future experience here in the wonderful Paramount subdivision.
