Subject: Linder Village Rezoning Application Hearing
Mayor Tammy, City Council, and Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission,
We’re writing to you today to state our objection to the zoning changes requested by the developers of the
proposed “Linder Village” complex. While my wife and I were not born in Idaho, we consider Meridian our
home. One of the main reasons we chose to move here nearly two decades ago was the family-oriented
attitude we encountered during our job search. In 2009 we were forced to move to the Seattle area, but we
returned a few years later (as quickly as possible) and bought a house in the Paramount subdivision. We
chose Paramount for the same reasons we came here all those years before - the emphasis on a family-
friendly community feeling. This is due in most part to the way Meridian has been planned and managed
throughout the years. We fear, however, that this is now in jeopardy.
We were excited a few months ago to hear that the “Linder Village” development was forthcoming. The name
suggested a community-oriented space with a mix of restaurants, residential dwellings, professional offices,
and light commercial uses, in line with the existing zoning and planning on that corner of Paramount. However,
when we saw the developer’s proposal and heard of the petition to rezone for large scale commercial
development, it was clear that they had no interest in maintaining the spirit of what the “Linder Village” name
suggested or to uphold the Paramount community atmosphere. Add to it that they plan to put a 24-hour loading
dock a stone’s throw from one resident’s bedroom windows, and it’s obvious there is no regard for the impact
to the quality of life in our neighborhood.

You’ve no doubt received many other letters and emails with long and detailed lists of all the reasons why
rezoning this area and/or granting variances to the plan is a bad idea. We’re in agreement with all those
reasons but will spare you the repetition of technical details in the hope you won’t gloss over the rest of our
letter. Let us just add that appro ving this rezoning proposal really would constitute a breach of the trust the
Meridian residents place in you to ensure that our neighborhoods maintain the atmosphere that drew us here
in the first place. If the Paramount residents had wanted to live next to large, busy shopping complexes with
dangerously crowded streets, we would have chosen homes in neighborhoods adjoining areas zoned for such
businesses. We obviously did not, so to think that this proposal would be acceptable is absurd. We would
welcome working together with the city and developer on a plan that fits the intent of the Paramount
neighborhood as currently zoned. This new proposal from the developer, however, flies in the face of any
sense of such cooperation.
Again, thank you for all the work you’ve done in making Meridian a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a
family. We sincerely hope you will stand up for the existing Meridian City Comprehensive Plan and reject the
rezoning and/or variance proposals su bmitted by the developer to ensure that the integrity of this great city is
maintained.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Greg & Sally Reynolds
