Greetings.
My wife and I have been residents and homeowners in the Paramount subdivision of Meridian for four years.
We were attracted to Meridian for a great many reasons, not the least of which seemed to be a sincere and
determined effort by City planners to manage growth in a thoughtful way. We took at face value the promise
that the City will to strive to enhance and protect the quality of life of its residents. Many of us chose Paramount
largely because of that promise, as reflected in the comprehensive plan and land use map. Sadly, that promise is
seriously threatened by the developer's application to amend the current land use map designation and we object
to it strongly.
We are not against growth -- we know population will inevitably continue to increase fo r years to come. Nor are
we against commercial development in that space. Nobody is advocating a nature preserve. We would love to
have nearby the kinds of shops, cafes, services, and other businesses that are consistent with the current mixed
use community designation. The developer proposes to scrap that designation entirely, and in a way that would
permanently alter the quality of life for nearby residents.

They propose that you allow the construction of warehouse-type superstores, which could only thrive by
attracting thousands of shoppers from distant communities. in brief, our concerns are these:
1. Increased traffic and congestion on Linder and, especially, Chinden. Nobody wants another Eagle Road
just steps from our patio. This kind of shopping center and the inevitable traffic signals that would
accompany it, would constitute a betrayal of the Compass plan by breaking the half-mile standard for
Chinden, and establish a precedent for other developers along that "expressway."
2. Increased traffic and congestion on our neighborhood streets within Paramount, due to multiple access
paths into Linder Village. Shoppers would seek to avoid Chinden by short-cutting through our
neighborhood from Meridian, McMillan, and Linder roads, raising noise and safety concerns.
3. We understand WinCo demands the right to 24-hour operation. Again, this is not characteristic of a
residential neighborhood and business community. Delivery trucks, lights, and noise all night long?
4. If this application is approved, the integrity of the entire Meridian comprehensive plan and land use map
would be questioned. What would be next?
These items only scratch the surface of our concerns. We respectfully request, implore, that you reject the
developer's application in favor of something more consistent with the current plan and the quality of life we
have here in north Meridian and Paramount.
Sincerely,
Doug Humphrey
